Hippocrates was writing about anxiety as far back as the fourth century. While there’s nothing new about anxiety, it has certainly been on the rise in recent years. Those that have anxiety are familiar with the overwhelming feeling of worry, fear, panic, and dread. But, there may be a new way of treating anxiety that will quickly reduce those feelings for sufferers.
The most common treatment for anxiety is pharmaceutical drugs, most likely because this is easy and makes both pharmaceutical companies and medical professionals a lot of money. Another common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy. Those who prefer holistic approaches may turn to meditation, massage, essential oils, and yoga for relief.
A new type of treatment that many people are using with success is music therapy. The perfect song for reducing anxiety was found by researchers in the United Kingdom, and it can reduce anxiety levels by up to 65%, making it one of the fastest and most effective non-pharmaceutical treatments available for anxiety.
Before we get to the song, let’s take a closer look at anxiety and how it affects this generation.
There have been a number of studies and surveys done that show that the younger generations are far more stressed than previous ones, particularly Generation Y and Millennials. In one survey, 57% of female respondents said they experienced “overwhelming anxiety,” and in another, over 30% of young women have had panic attacks.
What’s causing this rise in anxiety?
There are a number of reasons that psychologists have given for why these younger generations are far more stressed than previous ones, including overly-protective parenting styles, more frequent use of technology, and more exam-focused schooling techniques.
Another theory is that as younger generations have more choices than previous ones, this can lead to a rise in stress levels. This is because of the fact that as they not only have more options to choose from, but they also have nobody else to blame for their choices. They alone have to bear the guilt of their choices and have no way to blame others or society.
Technology and the rise of social media also add quite a bit of stress to the lives of young people. The readiness of technology allows them to have social media at their fingertips all the time, but that connectivity is not necessarily a good thing.
The problem with social media is that it allows them to compare their life with the lives of others. But, since most people only post the positive aspects of their life on social media, it leaves those on the outside feeling like they don’t measure up.
How can you fight against anxiety?
The two main methods of treating anxiety are with medication and counselling.
Pharmaceutical companies do particularly well out of this, with 65% of North Americans taking prescription medications daily and 43% taking mood altering prescriptions regularly.
However, in most cases adopting consistent practices that induce a state of relaxation has proven to be a very effective way of managing anxiety levels. Examples of practices that induce relaxation are meditation, yoga and massage.
Another approach to inducing feelings of relaxation that isn’t as well known is music therapy.
Neuroscientists have discovered a song that developed in collaboration with sound therapists which induces a greater state of relaxation in the listener than any other music that has ever been analysed.
Tests show that listening to this song resulted in a huge 65% reduction in people’s overall anxiety levels.
The name of the song is Weightless and is created by Marconi Union
Created in collaboration with sound therapists, the song is designed to slow down the heart rate, reduce blood pressure and lower levels of stress.
Here is the song. Make sure to listen with headphones. And consider sharing the song with someone you think would benefit from listening to it.

Scientists Found That Anxiety Disorders Are Linked To Narcissistic Abuse
People who believe in the good nature of others, are highly sensitive or emotionally intelligent, are the most common targets for narcissistic abuse.
Residing where any kind of emotional or mental abuse takes place is going to affect your health. Not only that, but the way you see yourself, and how much worth you believe you have, will suffer greatly. When you are constantly told that you are the problem, and that your rational and completely normal ways of responding to their abuse is contributing to the issue, what else could possibly be expected to happen? Your mind begins to sever- rationale and fear are intertwined, and the body reacts in several different ways, all displayed through types of anxiety disorders.
It’s unhealthy to surround yourself with these types of people, or to stay in a relationship with them. But for some people, the abuse comes from a family member, or parent, and escaping is only an option when you can leave their home. For those individuals, some disorders might have developed as a teenager, and continue to impact their adult relationships today.
The Mayo Clinic has compiled a list of several types of anxiety disorders, and describes the most common conditions as follows:
– Generalized anxiety disorder is manifested by overwhelming and persistent anxiety about commonplace events or activities.
– Anxiety disorder is triggered by a medical condition such as physically-caused panic attacks or intense anxiety.
– Substance-related anxiety disorder is manifested by panic or anxiety attacks because of certain substance use/withdrawal.
– Specific phobias are anxieties or fears associated with particular objects or situations.
– Social anxiety disorder is characterized by social situation avoidance because of embarrassment, anxiety, fear, or other negative self-reflected emotions.
– Separation anxiety disorder affects many kids in school or similar settings. It’s triggered by the separation from parents or anyone else that has a parental role in the life of the kid.
– Selective mutism affects many abused kids. Even though they’re able to speak normally in relaxed settings, they don’t speak in particular situations.
– Panic disorder is characterized by a cycle of panic disorders, like panic attacks out of the fear of experiencing one.
– Agoraphobia is an anxiety disorder characterized by an irrational fear of open or public places.
– Other unspecified or specified anxiety disorders cover other forms of phobias or anxiety that are equally disruptive but don’t fit in any of the above mentioned categories.
Kids with at least one emotionally abusive or narcissistic parent are at a higher risk of developing anxiety. Emotionally abusive or narcissistic people are great manipulators and high-functioning people. If caught in bad behavior, they’re able to talk themselves out of trouble, as well as turn the whole situation around.
This cycle of abuse can confuse the victims, particularly kids, because they feel that something is wrong, but can’t find a solution.
The victims often include empathetic and compassionate people that believe their abusers are nice people.
According to a study conducted by Muhammad Gadit from Memorial University of Newfoundland, verbal abuse could contribute to great psychological problems and brain damage, like dissociation, anger-hostility, depression, and anxiety in later years.
What’s more, Dr. Douglas Fields pointed out that when an environment is socially unhealthy or hostile, brain development is affected or impaired.
Early childhood physical abuse, sexual abuse, or witnessing domestic violence, have been associated with abnormal physical changes in the brain of kids, with long-term effects, which increase the risk of psychological disorders.
So, in case you’ve been abused in any way in your childhood, it isn’t your fault. You must be patient with yourself and you’ll finally become a stronger person.
